Building a Better Business Webinar: The Impact of COVID-19 on the Political Climate of 2020

The spread of COVID-19 has caused severe economic disruption and required an unprecedented response from policymakers, but the consequences will be felt for the foreseeable future. As states proceed with plans to reopen, what trends are we seeing and should we be preparing for a potential second wave arriving later this year? What progress is being made on the development of treatments and vaccines to help lessen the risks? What are the core aspects of the policy response, and is there room for more action that provides support for the economy out of Washington? Longer term, what will be the impact on the 2020 election and the potential direction of policy should the makeup of government significantly change? Will political dynamics lead to continued deterioration of U.S.-China relations with a return to tit-for-tat confrontation that threatens the stability of economic ties between the two nations? With Chris Meekins’ experience working on public health emergencies at the Department of Health and Human Services and Ed Mills’ experience working on the House Financial Services Committee during the financial crisis, Chris and Ed will utilize their unique Washington experiences to answer these questions and more during the discussion.
