Highlights

Three Member Firms Participate in Queens Career Day. On March 11, Elizabeth Fleming, PE, HDR; Steven Lowinger, WSP USA; Brendan Smith, PE, WSP USA; and Serena Takada, EIT, Hazen and Sawyer presented at York Early College Academy for their career day. York Academy reached out to ACEC New York earlier this month looking for participants, and a call for volunteers was sent to Metro area members, to which these volunteers responded. These young professionals brought an insider perspective on engineering to young adults. ACEC New York was proud to facilitate these presentations and further support the next generation of engineers.

Annual Awards 2019 – Nominations Due Friday. The Recognition Awards Committee is soliciting applications for New Principal of the Year (nominee must be a principal at a member firm less than 5 years) and the Engineer of the Year (nominee must be current or retired ACEC New York Member). As a reminder, nominations are by FIRM and NOT by region. Help us reach our goal of a record number of applications this year! The awards will be presented at the Annual Meeting on June 5, 2019. Visit our website for more information, to download the forms, and to view a list of past awardees. Applications are due by April 5, 2019.

ACEC National is also accepting nominations for the Young Professional of the Year. Per the National guidelines, nominees for this award should be a PE at a current member firm that is under the age of 35. All nominations MUST be submitted to ACEC New York; we will collect all nominations and determine two finalists that will be forwarded on to National by their May deadline. To apply, download the application and submit to natasha@acecny.org no later than April 5, 2019.

ACEC TriState CFO Program: Feedback Requested. The ACEC TriState Conference, a collaboration between ACEC New York, ACEC NJ and ACEC PA, will take place on September 22-24. To gauge interest in a possible CFO program track, similar to the program track at the Winter Conference, we have created a survey. CFOs/Business managers: please complete this survey. Owners/Partners, please complete this survey.

Updates to Membership Listing Due May 31. The main contact for each firm/branch office must log in to review their firm’s listing in our online directory, and all profiles should be updated by May 31. An email with detailed instructions will be sent to all main contacts. Reminder: ONLY the main contact for each firm/branch can make changes to directory entries - other logins do not have this feature. On May 31, your firm's listing will be considered current and will be printed in the directory. For questions, contact natasha@acecny.org.

Committee Participation Form to be Released this Month. The electronic Committee Participation Form will be issued to the ACEC New York main contact for each firm. Each firm should submit only ONE form for committee nominations. Assignments are made by the Chair-elect and are announced in July (term is August 1-July 30). Should anyone leave his/her firm, the committee spot reverts back to the member firm, and they can designate another individual to take on this role. To view the current 2018-19 Committees, visit our website. All requests must be received no later than May 31, 2019. Requests received after this date may not be accommodated for the 2018-2019 operating year.
