Annual Awards 2020 – Call For Nominations! The Recognition Awards Committee is soliciting applications for New Principal of the Year (nominee must be a principal at a member firm less than 5 years) and the Engineer of the Year (nominee must be current or retired ACEC New York Member). As a reminder, nominations are by FIRM and NOT by region. The awards will be presented at the Annual Meeting on June 3, 2020. Visit our website for more information, to download the forms, and to view a list of past awardees. Applications are due by April 3, 2020. ACEC National is also accepting nominations for the Young Professional of the Year. Per the National guidelines, nominees for this award should be a PE at a current member firm that is under the age of 35. All nominations MUST be submitted to ACEC New York prior to the National deadline of May 1. To apply, download the application and checklist and submit all required materials to natasha@acecny.org no later than April 3, 2020.

John Waltz Named Life Member. Per application from the Long Island region, John Waltz, PE, formerly of LiRo Engineers Inc., has been approved as a Life Member of ACEC New York by the Board of Directors. Life Membership is available to a principal of a member firm who has fully retired from active practice and has made a significant contribution to the association. Continuing Education Survey Results. The Continuing Education survey received over 80 responses – many thanks to everyone who responded! The results can be viewed here. The information gained from this survey will be used to improve future continuing education offerings. We encourage all members to spread the word about these opportunities, and watch our communications for future webinars and seminars.

Annual Meeting: Call for PDH Tour. ACEC New York is looking for a one-hour, PDH-worthy tour in New York City to be presented on the day prior to the 2020 Annual Meeting. The tour will take place on June 2, and the Annual Meeting will take place on June 3 at the Union League Club in New York City. The tour usually runs during the late morning or early afternoon. Tour must be technical in nature and must appeal to all disciplines. Contact Jennifer Waterbury at jennifer@acecny.org or call 518-452-8611 for more information or to submit your program.

Reminder: Update Member Directory Profiles. The 2020-2021 directory will go into production in June. Visit your firm's directory listing and make sure all contact info, including principals and employees, are up to date. Main contacts can update profiles via their logins. Engineers Week: Call for Entries. ACEC New York will be producing an article on members' Engineers Week activities, which is scheduled to appear in the upcoming issue of the New York Real Estate Journal. For this article, we would like to include photos of members engaging in Engineers Week activities. If you would like to submit a photo for consideration, please email the photo to natasha@acecny.org with a short paragraph summarizing the participants and the activity, no later than March 13, 2020. Please note that submission does not guarantee inclusion in the article.


Continuing Education

Call for Submissions! ACEC New York is looking for both technical and business programs to present as webinars. PDH webinars should be about one hour and should be technical in nature. Presenters earn 3 PDHs per 1-hour technical class the first time they present. Business webinars should also be about 1 hour and should provide information relevant to our membership (no sales pitches). Contact Erica Lavigne at erica@acecny.org.
