Highlights

Annual Meeting: Exceptional Turnout for Final 17-18 Meeting. On June 6, ACEC New York held the Annual Meeting, the final membership meeting of the 2017-18 fiscal year, at the Union League Club in New York City. The event began with a tour of the Moynihan Train Hall project on June 5. A continuing education program, featuring 3 PDH sessions, was held on the morning of June 6, followed by the Awards Luncheon. During the luncheon, the 2018 Leadership Institute graduates were recognized, and the 2018-19 board of directors were sworn in. In an unprecedented tie, both Andrew Ciancia, P.E., LEED AP, D.GE, F.ASCE, Chairman of the Board, Langan Engineering and Linda Shumaker, P.E., President/Managing Principal, Shumaker Consulting Engineering, were recognized as Engineer of the Year. Brian Towers, P.E., LEED AP, Associate Partner, Jaros, Baum & Bolles, was recognized as New Principal of the Year. Rick Cotton, Executive Director, PANYNJ, earned the Chairman's Award and addressed attendees as the keynote speaker. Metro Scholarship Luncheon: May 22. On May 22, over 200 industry professionals gathered at the Union League Club for the Metro Region Membership Meeting and Annual Luncheon. Ten students (seven of which were ACE Mentor of Greater NY students) attending New York City metro or surrounding-area universities and colleges received ACEC New York Scholarships. Many thanks to the 2017-18 scholarship donors, especially those who participated in the presentation. After the scholarships were presented, Tom Foley, P.E., Deputy Commissioner, Public Buildings, NYC Dept of Design and Construction addressed attendees. Fall Conference PDH Session: Call for Entries. ACEC New York is currently looking for one-hour PDH sessions for their 2018 Fall Conference, to be held at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, October 31 through November 2. Firms offering presentations will be given "Program Sponsor" designation. If your firm has a technical course you would be interested in presenting, contact Gina Potfora at gina@acecny.org.

NYC DDC Annual Consultants Open House. On June 12, 2018, the NYC DDC will host the 2018 Annual Consultants Open House where the agency will share their Project Pipeline as well as highlight new contract processes and procedures. For more information, visit the event website.

University Transportation Research Center Reports. The UTRC Region 2 has released three transportation reports (The Spatial Effect of Socio-Economic Demographics on Transit Ridership: a Case Study in New York; Evaluating the Impacts of Real-Time Information on Subway Ridership in New York City and Potential Hydrodynamic Load on Coastal Bridges in the Greater New York Area due to Extreme Storm Surge and Wave) based on research from Manhattan College and CUNY, respectively.

ACEC New York PDH Webinars


June 28, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM | PDH Webinar #112: Risks and Opportunities for the New ISO 45001 - OH&S Management System (1.0 PDH)

Call for Submissions! ACEC New York is looking for both technical and business programs to present as webinars. PDH webinars should be about one hour and should be technical in nature. Presenters earn 3 PDHs per 1-hour technical class the first time they present. Business webinars should also be about 1 hour and should provide information relevant to our membership (no sales pitches). Contact Erica Lavigne at erica@acecny.org.
