ACEC New York Welcomes Bill Murray. On August 14, Bill Murray joined the ACEC New York NYC Office as the new Government Affairs Associate. Bill comes to ACEC New York from his previous position as a Senior Policy Analyst at the New York City Council. Prior to this, he was Deputy Chief of Staff and Legislative Director for NYC Councilman Jim Gennaro. Additional DDC Training Sessions. Due to high demand, ACEC New York is once again partnering with the Department of Design and Construction with three more sessions on Water Main training. Training will take place on October 2, November 6, and December 4. These Water Main Training sessions will cover topics such as water main installation, water shutdowns, chlorination and disinfection, and sampling procedures. Urgent! EEA Moderators Still Needed. Engineering Excellence judging is scheduled for October 25 in New York City. The Engineering Excellence Committee is seeking licensed design professionals to act as moderators for the competition. In advance of the judging, the Moderator receives copies of the entrant’s written and visual materials. Moderators prepare a presentation 5-7 minutes in length about the project to present to the judges. Each moderator receives 4-8 projects. If you would like to serve as a moderator, contact Erica Lavigne at erica@acecny.org and indicate the category you are interested in moderating: (a) Studies, Research and Consulting Engineering Services, (b) Building/Technology Systems, (c) Structural Systems, (d) Surveying and Mapping Technology, (e) Environmental (f) Waste and Storm Water (g) Water Resources (h) Transportation (k) Energy and (l) Industrial and Manufacturing Processes and Facilities.
EEA Final Entries Accepted Until September 20. Those firms that submitted preliminary applications for the 2017 Engineering Excellence program have received further instructions on submitting their final entries. We have received 170 preliminary entries - a new record! All final entries will be submitted in an electronic format. Final entries must be received by our office by September 20, 2017 or by September 27, 2017 with a $100 late processing fee. Consider Donating to the 2017-18 Scholarship Fund. The ACEC New York Scholarship Fund is now accepting donations for 2017-18. The Fund awards scholarships to undergraduate engineering students in New York State to promote the consulting engineering profession. Named scholarships reflect contributions of $2,500 or more and are awarded by the firm at an ACEC New York function. Firms can also contribute less than $2,500; these funds are combined into general ACEC New York Scholarships and used to help the Scholarship Fund grow. NYS Engineering Career Fairs 2017-18. ACEC New York has prepared a list of 2017-18 dates for college and university career fairs throughout New York State.
