ACEC New York and Hazen and Sawyer Donate $2K to Engineers without Borders
NEW YORK, June 13, 2018 — ACEC New York and Hazen and Sawyer each donated $1,000 to Engineers without Borders, New York Professional Chapter.
As part of a campaign to promote charitable organizations that benefit the built environment in New York and worldwide, ACEC New York offered a $1,000 donation to an approved charity at their Engineering Excellence Gala on April 7, 2018. The author of the best tweet about the engineering profession that evening related to the theme of “turning ideas into reality” would choose which charity would receive this donation.
Sandeep Mehrotra, P.E., Vice President of Hazen and Sawyer, tweeted, “Turning ideas into reality—all you need is a dollar and a dream and a team of engineers.” Mehrotra chose EWB-NY as the recipient of the $1,000 donation, and Hazen and Sawyer agreed to match the donation, resulting in a $2,000 total donation to the organization.
“The part of engineering work I appreciate most is when our projects make a tangible improvement in people's lives,” said Mehrotra. “Engineers Without Borders shows the power of engineering at its best. Bringing drinkable water to a village in rural India or designing projects to clean up rivers in South America changes people's lives and helps make the world a better place."
"EWB-NY and ACEC New York both support the industry locally by mentoring and developing engineers, architects, and other professionals of the built environment,” said Renate Crollini, Fundraising and Marketing Committee Lead, EWB-NY Professional Chapter. “These individuals not only rise to the top of their respective fields but also are the leaders of the next generation. In addition, both organizations work towards improving communities worldwide by providing sustainable solutions to those who need it. Our partnership is fundamental in moving forward this shared goal, and we look forward to strengthening this relationship in the future."
As part of this initiative, in conjunction with their Winter Conference in January, ACEC New York also donated over $2,000 in canned goods to the Food Pantries of the Capital District through Capital Region CANStruction. ACEC New York looks forward to continuing to support EWB-NY and other organizations that enrich and grow the built environment and communities in New York State and across the globe.
