NEW YORK, May 12, 2026 — Twenty-seven engineering students attending colleges and universities in New York State have received $96,500 collectively in scholarships from member firms and regions of the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC New York). Individual awards range from $500 to $10,000 and are given based on the students’ cumulative grade-point average, college activities, work experience and essays. For the sixth year, ACEC New York pledged $3,000 to support National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) scholarship students. Three students have each been awarded $1,000 scholarships. For the third consecutive year, ACEC New York is proud to support six community college students with $6,000 in scholarships. This ongoing commitment reflects our members' belief that talented engineers come from every background, and that removing financial barriers is essential to building a stronger, more inclusive profession.

For the fourth year, ACEC New York pledged $3,000 to support National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) scholarship students. Three students have each been awarded $1,000 scholarships. This is in line with our organization and industry’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging priorities and efforts. Our members help alleviate the financial challenges of higher education, fully engage in their exploration of engineering, and establish connections that pave the way for mentoring, internships, and job prospects.

For the first time, ACEC New York has awarded an additional $6,000 in scholarships to six community college students. We realize there are many paths to engineering, and we intend to continue to find ways to support the next generation of engineers.

Severud Associates Wins Top Award for Moynihan Train Hall

NEW YORK, April 11, 2022 — On Saturday, April 9, over 500 consulting engineers and clients attended the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York’s (ACEC New York) 55th annual Engineering Excellence Awards Gala at the New York Midtown Hilton. Awards were presented to 113 ACEC New York member projects in the following categories: studies, research, and consulting services; building/technology systems; structural systems; surveying and mapping technology; environmental; waste and storm water; water resources; transportation; energy; industrial and manufacturing processes and facilities; and special projects.

On Tuesday, October 5, over 350 consulting engineers and clients attended the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York’s (ACEC New York) first ever hybrid virtual and in-person Engineering Excellence Awards Luncheon at Gotham Hall. Awards were presented to 127 engineering projects in the following categories: studies, research, and consulting services; building/technology systems; structural systems; surveying and mapping technology; environmental; waste and storm water; water resources; transportation; energy; industrial and manufacturing processes and facilities; and special projects. Proceeds from the event benefited the ACEC New York Scholarship Fund, formally the New York Consulting Engineering Scholarship and Educational Fund.

The American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC New York) inducted a new slate of officers and directors at the association’s Annual Meeting on June 4, which took place virtually. All officers’ and directors’ terms began on July 1.

Rick Zottola, P.E., Partner at LERA Consulting Structural Engineers, is now the new Chair. Outgoing Chair Raymond Daddazio, P.E., Senior Consultant at Thornton Tomasetti, is now the National Director of ACEC New York, serving as liaison between ACEC New York and the ACEC National organization in Washington, D.C.

Richard (Rick) Zottola, P.E., C.E. is partner of LERA Consulting Structural Engineers. With the firm since 1982, he has experience with a broad spectrum of public and private project types, with particular expertise in the design of academic buildings, healthcare facilities, laboratories and technical institutions. In addition, he has designed numerous office buildings, residential developments and restoration projects, and has led numerous investigations projects for LERA’s Forensic Engineering division. He has authored several papers and presented at engineering seminars and conferences internationally.

John T. Evers, PhD has spent 30 years working in government, association management and legislative affairs. He has most recently served as the Sr. Director of Government Affairs for The Business Council of New York. While employed by The Business Council for the last five years, he has been responsible for construction, transportation, telecommunications, technology, contract procurement and manufacturing issues. His government experience includes service in the New York State Assembly as a legislative assistant and as an assistant to the Clerk of the Assembly, senior policy analyst for the Albany County Comptroller, and legislative affairs director for the NYS Commissioner of Taxation & Finance. He also held senior level management posts in Albany County government serving as Commissioner of General Services, CIO, and Director of Operations. A Bachelor of Arts graduate of Siena College (’91), he also holds a Master of Arts (’98) and Doctorate (’13) in Public Policy History from the State University of New York at Albany.

ACEC New York Resume Bank During COVID-19

During these challenging times, ACEC New York has established a RESUME BANK to help match engineers that have been separated from firms with available opportunities among our member firms.

Separated engineers from member firms can ask to have their resume included in the bank by sending a PDF of their resume to hannah@acecny.org with one of three listed disciplines (MEP, Civil or Structural) in the header. These resumes will be collected in the appropriate bank without review or evaluation. Member firms seeking to fill openings can send a request for the resumes in the bank to Hannah O'Grady at ACEC New York (hannah@acecny.org). The request should indicate which discipline (MEP, Civil or Structural) is being sought. ACEC New York will NOT read or evaluate any resumes. All communication should be through email. This service will continue as long as deemed appropriate.

Official Statement on Engineering Excellence Gala

Due to the directive from the Office of the Governor of New York State, which dictates that "...events with 500 or more individuals in attendance to be cancelled or postponed," the Engineering Excellence Gala, originally scheduled for April 4 in New York City, will be postponed. A new date will be announced once confirmed. Current ticket purchases will stand until a new date is selected. In the unlikely event that the gala is cancelled, a refund will be provided for all attendees. If current ticket holders request a refund at this time of postponement, a full refund will be provided. We sincerely thank our attendees for their patience at this time.

All overnight rooms for the event at the Hilton Midtown have been canceled; no fees are owed on these rooms.

The safety and well-being of not just the engineering industry but all New Yorkers are essential to the core mission of ACEC New York. We will continue to monitor the continuously developing situation regarding COVID-19 and will continue to act accordingly.
